Why Support KruShan Foundation

“KruShan Foundation is doing vital work to address detrimental environmental changes, specifically as affecting African penguins. I cannot do that work myself; however, I can donate funds to do so. In addition, the Foundation is working in a transparent manner (Guidestar-Candid), along with using a high percentage of donations for programs. Its goals align well with my desire to do something to help those in the world now and for generations to come.”
Sherry Moore, Austin, Texas, recurring donor

Why donate to KruShan Foundation?

  • We don’t have distractions because we are laser-focused on one thing—endangered African penguins.
  • The big organizations with high overhead or plush toys (the cost is subtracted from your donation) can’t ensure that at least 97% of your donation goes to programs. With no salaries, office rent, and minimal fundraising costs, we can.
  • Our partner organizations in South Africa would welcome your direct donations; however, because of our close relationship with them, we know what they need and can direct funds, including emergency funds, where they will have the most significant impact.
  • We hold the highest transparency rating (Platinum) from Candid GuideStar.
  • We’re not in a bubble—we travel to South Africa regularly for on-site visits to African penguin colonies and to work with our partners and African penguin rangers in the field.
  • We’ve been active conservation advocates since 2013 and are Climate Reality Leaders trained by Vice President Al Gore.

Note: We are an IRS-qualified US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since the IRS removed, quite wrongly, the $600 charitable donation deduction for US taxpayers who use the standard deduction, if you itemize deductions, your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donor-advised funds (DAF) are another simple, tax-effective way to donate to charity.
