They create hundreds of jobs and bring R613 million to R4.5 billion ($35 million to $259 million) to South Africa from tourists visiting the African penguins. They also serve as marine sentinels, much like a canary in a coal mine. Their rapid population decline is an alarm telling us something is wrong with their marine ecosystem.
At least 97% of your donation goes directly to the critically endangered African penguins for food, artificial nests, rescue, rehabilitation and release, rearing abandoned or orphaned African penguin chicks, and emergency funding.
